Almost pointless for a review.Īfter listening to all four of these recordings very carefully while watching the sound on a Spectrum Analyzer my vote would go to this recording as overall best for 2 reasons:ġ) Best bass capture and overall balance between all instruments and instruments vs. I would like to hear stories from the rest of you. Although I was not at this show, Atleast I have a special place this show takes me to. I am always taken back to those special care-free days of my last two years of highschool, which I loved. Now I sit here listening to this show.on my iPod, almost midnight, 2010.

I was having a difficult time getting people to like the catchy songs of the Beatles, Rolling Stones, WHO etc I kept the Grateful Dead all to myself. I did not bother trying to get people on the bus. Imagine their faces when I would press pause at lunch time and tell them the band was playing Scarlett into Fire! hahahaha.

They have never even heard of the band before. I would joke around sometimes and speak "deadhead" language to some other kids at school. Walking home from school with the sun in my face, care-free 16-17 year old and listening to this music.I felt so honoured. Loved Bob's 'Take A Step Back' it always made me smile. I loved Mama Tried but would usually skip through Row Jimmy because I could not wait for the Dancing In The Sreets. I remember walking home and always having the second cd in my 'discman' The second cd was from Mama Tried all the way till the end of the Scarlet-Fire. The famous Betty Board with the missing intro. I remember having this show across three cds. When I downloaded this show from WinMX (remember?) I did not know of this shows status of being one of the best, I just wanted more Dead. I got on the bus back in 2003 and it has been growing into an insane trip with each passing year. Sadly, I never got to see the Grateful Dead. I just made a new 8x10 print from the negative about four years ago and scanned it, probably at 200dpi, and made minor adjustments for contrast/brightness and retouched out some dust.Īside regarding archival original media: I seriously doubt that anybody will be able to read anything off of a digi-cam memory card after 30+ years, whereas this negative was in perfect usable condition! I've got nothing against digital imaging, but old-school film photography is still MAGIC!) (Technical info: Shot on 35mm Tri-X with a Petri Color 35, exposed at 1/15th at f/2.8, and developed in D-76. It's too bad that my college roommate's head takes up so much room between Bobby and Donna, but hey, it's still a great shot! Dig it! Since this show seems to be very under-documented visually, I thought I'd put up the link for everybody's enjoyment: I shot the best one during the slow vocals on St. This was also the only general-admission show where I actually worked my way right up to the front and managed to take some pictures. Of course, a few years later I wore out a reel-to-reel tape listening to this show! I have to say, at the time, while it was obviously a great show and a wonderful experience, it didn't seem vastly better than the other outstanding shows of 1977 (like the Palladium show I saw a week earlier, or Englishtown a few months later). I was one of the lucky few who attended this legendary show. Very clever I thought, since I hadn't seen any other band do this in Barton Hall.Īnyways, any help in finding soundboard recordings or mixes of them would be great! They did this by hoisting the speakers up halfway up to the ceiling, so they were projecting down the middle. First Dead show ever! I was way impressed with how the dead managed to make Barton Hall, which had notoriously bad sound (big volume, lots of echo), actually sound okay.

But I can't seem to find mixes like that now? I can only seem to find audience recordings to download and soundboard files to stream, whereas previously I could download them also?įunny thing also, I went to Cornell at the time and saw this show. I do remember that the original download was a mix of the soundboard with some audience recording mixed in.

So I tried downloading this show recently and find the recordings not nearly as full as before. But I've moved twice since and may have lost half of it in a divorce.
